The Scotty Scramble Golf Tournament began in 2021 by a group of Scott's closest friends, after he lost his battle with cancer. It was a day for them to come together and remember Scott Daniel Andersen and the impact he had on so many. In 2022 the invite was extended to Scott's family, which leads us to where we are now, working together to create a fun filled day in his honor, while raising money for a cause close to Scott.
Scott worked for MultiCare for just shy of 10 years. MultiCare is the owner and operator of Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. Through work, Scott had the opportunity to get to know and trust many of the doctors there. While everyone hopes to never have to use Mary Bridge Hospital, Scott always thought it was reassuring to know that Mary Bridge was in our community and available for his Family and Friends families when needed.
Christmas was always one of Scott’s favorite holidays! Growing up he loved the tradition of Santa coming to his house on Christmas Eve, and enjoyed it even more as an adult, getting to experience this tradition with his own children. Mary Bridge has a tradition each year of Santa’s Workshop, where Child life specialists and volunteers organize hundreds of toys and games donated to the hospital. They browse the workshop for items on patient and sibling wish lists, package the toys in festive bags, and make special deliveries to each patient’s room. Santa’s Workshop is one of the ways that Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital strives to care for patients beyond their medical needs, which was important to Scott.
When we first talked about how we would honor Scott, some of his closest friends recommended the Special Olympics!
While attending Rogers High School, Scott had the opportunity, with some of his friends, to help coach the Special Olympics High School Basketball team. Scott loved every minute of it. It did not matter whether they won or lost, they were all winners or rock stars as one athlete said. The spirit, passion, and enthusiasm that the Special Olympic athletes have is unlike no other and that had a huge impact on Scott’s life.
